  1. Aww, they should’ve featured your blog! I think it is very elegant and visually appealing. Easy to navigate, too. I like that.

  2. Thank you, Lauren. you made me blush.

I plan to make some changes. I love Typography, so I’m working on a “typographic” WordPress theme from scratch - layout will be similar to this one, but graphically less restrained (no doubt taking a little inspiration from David Carson and sites like http://www.jrvelasco.com). The idea is to have the Typographic theme as an option - users can click and view the same content inside that theme - not completely necessary, but an interesting project all the same.

  3. Wow, I took a look at that website you mentioned. Very interesting! I like typography, too, but I still have a lot to learn! I think typography is one of those very under-appreciated skills; when it’s good you generally don’t notice it, but if it’s bad it sticks out. Sometimes (like on that site) it is obviously emphasized so you do notice it when it’s good, which is nice, too. I’ll be interested to see your theme!

  4. I agree with Lauren, your blog’s design has many inspirational details in it. I like it very much, despite the fact that this blog doesn’t send link love to my InspirationBit ;-)

Johno, how does your Snippet section work? Do you categorize your posts differently, and display that category as a separate page, or what? Where did you come up with this Snippet idea? I like it very much.

  5. Vivien

    You are now ‘Link-Loved’ ;)

Thank you for your compliments. The Snippet Posts just grew out of my desire to have some smaller posts (that I didn’t want in my main posts section). It was also an exercise/experiment in ‘Key Words’ - If you search Google, for example, with “Snippet Post“, guess who comes top ;)

The Snippet Posts are excluded from the main posts with the help of the Ultimate Category Excluder Plugin, and a little fiddling.

The Snippet Posts have their own category. I then set to exclude that category from the main posts using that plugin. Shout if you want more details/code, etc.

  6. WoW, Inspiration Bit is now loved by Redsil. How cool is that! Thanks!!!
And the fact that since “I” comes before “L”, InspirationBit is loved more than Lorelle :-)

Johno, thanks a lot for the Snippet explanation. I hope you don’t mind me borrowing your idea and using these snippets for my blog after the re-design (I’m not yet giving up on that plan). I’ll let you know if I need any help with the set up.

  7. For a full ten minutes you were listed as “Inspiration Bot”, until I corrected my typo.

The Snippet Post idea retails for $999.99; however, with your $999.99 discount voucher (in the post), your closing balance will be $0 ;)

  8. Yes, I never intended to use my blog as a bot :-)

Wow, how did I deserve such a huge discount? I hope I won’t be surprised later with monthly fees, would I? :-)

Guess, what? The first synonym that Thesaurus displays for “snippet” is
“bit”. So I’ll just borrow your idea, but call my section Inspiration Bits :-)

  9. Vivien

I like the sound of Inspiration Bits - perfect.

    Lauren

Yes, I agree, typography is undervalued, and the correct use of type is, I still find, difficult; but such a joy to learn.

Did you see the Great Typography Film Snippet Post? Vivien also posted some great links in the comments.

  10. Yes! I did see that. I have yet to watch them, though. Thank you for all the great resources :)
